FILMFESTIVAL CINEMAMBIENTE JUNIOR AND THE HUMAN ELEMENT
FILMFESTIVAL CINEMAMBIENTE JUNIOR
In the school year 2020-2021 I participated with my classes in the Junior Cinemambiente Festival , organized by the Turin Cinema Museum.
HOW THE STUDENTS REWORKED THE PARTICIPATION IN THE FESTIVAL
The students reviewed the vocabulary and themes developed by the three films of the Cinemambiente Junior Festival seen and discussed in class , doing online research to deepen them on the basis of their interests. Each has prepared his / her presentation (also helped by PPT or keynote or other program chosen by the student) in which he / she explained, based on the information received from the Cinemambiente project and his research, how he / she when he enters the world of work can be of help to the planet.
The presentation was made, in English, at the present time, because the presenter had to identify with the fact that we were in the year 2035 and that he was already working on his project, of which he was the most experienced specialist in the world. The use of the past tense was allowed only when, for example, the speaker wanted to refer to what as a student he had seen in the films of Cinemambiente when he frequented the Aldini.
The presentations began on April 9, 2021 and ended in May 2021. The presentation of each student was followed by a 'question time' in which the classmates asked the 'expert' questions, also evaluated in the final grade.
For the overall evaluation, the originality of the project, the verisimilitude, the ability to see, the organization, the clarity of presentation, the competence in English, and the ability to relate one's own system with that of the peers were considered. The exhibitor had to be able to refer to the projects of the peers who had presented before him / her, and had to demonstrate the ability to relate previous projects with their own.
In this image taken in the classroom during the English lesson on April 19, 2021, Matteo, Daniele, Christian and Simone (1st year students of the Aldini-Valeriani Technical Institute Address "Mechanics, Mechatronics and Energy") are thinking together how to coordinate their ecological strategies (previously presented by each of them) and create a coherent and integrated system for environmental sustainability.

THE HUMAN ELEMENT
One of the films of the Festival most remembered and cited by the boys during their reworkings was 'The Human Element' by Matthew Testa. The most appreciated aspect of this film on the environment was the choice of the photographer James Balog to document the phenomena related to climate change taking into consideration the four vital elements - Earth, Water, Air, Fire - and their alteration due to the humanity, which is the fifth element.
Starting from these considerations, we asked ourselves how to recover a relationship with Nature and get closer to it, and from this was born the project 'The Human Element' of Systemic English, integrated into the macro-project 'Open Schools 2021', in which we explored the four vital elements from within our feeling part of the world, looking for as far as possible to mend the separation that has condemned us to be the harmful 'fifth element' and to rebuild one relationship of interconnection between the environment and us human beings.
